Vijay Kumar clinches Silver medal

Olympic 2012 Updates from London:

Vijay Kumar turns out to be a hero of the entire nation as he bagged silver medal in the 25 m rapid fire pistol event. Vijay Kumar is now an unexpected package who gave India a hope. Kumar bravely competed for the gold as he fell short by just 4 points from the Cuban Leuris Pupo.

Vijay Kumar, a 26-year-old army subedar showed his temperament to give India another medal in the 2012 London Olympics and in the shooting event as well.

The Chinese Ding Feng ended his stint with a prestigious bronze behind Kumar. Feng finishes with 27 points.

After Gagan Narang’s bronze triumph in 10 m Rifle shooting event, Kumaris now the second Indian to earn a medal at London Olympics. This silver gave some encouragement to the Indian camp with his splendid performance.
Vijay Kumar started the final with a bang. He was a bit shaky later, when Pupo was hitting bull’s eye. He found the target 30 times out of 40 attempts in the series comprising eight rounds of five shots each.

After this silver, Kumar became the fourth Indian shooter to win a medal at the Olympics. Earlier, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore who won a silver in 2004 Athens Olympics, Abhinav Bindra who won gold in 2008 Beijing Olympics and Gagan Narang who won a bronze medal in this London Olympics.

Joydeep Karmakar another shooter who was competing in the 50m rifle prone with Narang, just missed out on a bronze medal. Karmakar finishes fourth in the finals. He also set an Olympic record in his qualifying rounds.
