Latest News : BJP MP Smriti Irani and Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam’s quarrel went to a different extent as Irani on Saturday sent a legal defamation notice to the Congress MP. BJP indicated that it was also exploring what legal steps could be taken against the sharp tongued Congress MP. While Congress on Friday disapproved of Sanjay Nirupam’s defamatory and indecent language against BJP MP Smriti Irani during a TV debate and also said that it was very regrettable.
By taking this issue further, BJP decided that its party spokespersons and leaders will not attend news channel debates in which Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam is participating.
Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary said that, “This is very regrettable. To say such a thing is unfortunate. It is this mindset, which we have to fight.”
BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Nirupam “has made anti-women comments and BJP strongly condemns it. Nirupam is a Congress MP and his party is headed by a woman, yet he has made such derogatory remarks. We expect Congress President Sonia Gandhi to take action against him and apologise herself”.
BJP’s demand of apologising to the BJP MP is not accepted yet while Nirupam had countered Smriti Irani’s stand when she took the side of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi when both of them made derogatory statements against women.
Nirupam had said that, “Till some time ago you were dancing on the TV screens and now you have become a psephologist.”
“The kind of language and choice of words by Nirupam in a news channel debate against Irani, who is our Mahila Morcha chief and MP as well as an established TV actor, is most unfortunate and painful. He crossed all limits of decency and decorum,” Prasad said.
